On the race of launching QWERTY mobiles with social networking facility, the big giant Microsoft joined with its new social networking phone “KIN” that is aimed at younger generations especially at the age group of 12 to 22. Robbie Bach, President of the Entertainment & Devices division of Microsoft announced that this phone will personify true kinship among friends, families and customers with technology along with knitting together a tight community of kindred spirits. Before announcement, there was rumor that the new mobile will be called Dove or Turtle but Microsoft chooses KIN as they thought it will be more appropriate for the younger generations.

The Phone has different design than others f its genre, the QWERTY keypad is slide out type, and round edged. The screen multi touched and home screen is always on that shows feeds of latest happening texts, tweets, shared images etc from customized friend group. The KIN has a special ‘spot’ where the users can share images, audio or video by drag and drop method, copy from anywhere and then they can decide where and how to share it. The phone is preloaded with social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter which supports this drag and drop method. Anything created on the phone by the user is duplicated online and stored into an organized timeline that can be used within any browser. The phone also comes with Instant Messengers like Yahoo, MSN and Skype for quick access and stay in touch with friends via it. The phone will also be the first mobile from Microsoft to use its ‘Zune’ music service that they are trying to perfect for a long time.
This is a step from Microsoft to launch their next big project that they started with entering KIN. Microsoft recently launched their new mobile operating system ‘Windows Phone 7 Series’ that is likely to replace previous Windows Mobile Operating system. Along with this, Microsoft will be integrating Zune Media Marketplace, Bing Search Engine & Xbox Live Video Game Network into their next launch of a rumored smartphone.
Microsoft’s effort with its KIN is to share market from Blackberry and Apple iPhone but KIN lacks from them by all possible technical features, apart from the social networking facility exclusively given to users. It’s to see whether younger generations are attracted only for this feature who wants to stay in touch with their group via social networking sites and instant messengers. KIN will come in people’s hand in May 2010, however detailed technical specification or the Prices are yet to be announced from Microsoft.
