Recently, the telecom giant, O2, has revealed that it would be launching the mobile wallet service using the all NFC technology. The organization has also applied for an e-money licence from the financial Services authorities which is aimed to roll out the mobile service technology later this year.
This official announcement from O2 has led to many confusions and also conclusions. Though confusions and conclusions seem to rhyme but it is fact. Apple fans have predicted that this service is most probably will be used in the all new iPhone 5. Many online theorists have also concluded that this technology will also be present in the iPad 2 which is expected to be released in the late 2011.
O2 has previously tried the technology on a Nokia handset and hopes NFC technology will get a home in the latest Smartphones. They have aimed at some Smartphones like Google Nexus S and the unannounced iPhone 5.
It is expected that the London Olympics will see the launch of the NFC into the mainstream. The NFC mobile service will allows users to make small purchases easily from the phone. The initiative has been taken after many banks have started issuing credit cards and debit cards without any contract. It is also expected that the total number of contactless debit cards will be 22 million and total number of contactless credit cards will be 60,000 in UK at the end of the year.
As far as O2 is concerned, they are constantly making researches on the field of money business and recruiting many financial experts which will help the organization to bring together the power, experience and capabilities of financial services sector on the mobile. The device will then act as payment devices as well as for other purposes like travel cards and e-tickets.
In a report by Bloomberg, it is stated that Apple is planning to incorporate the NFC technology in both iPhone 5 as well as iPad 2 so that there will another giant leap in the gadget world. NFC is expected to be the next big technology for the Smartphone world which will bring everyday day to day functions directly from the palm.
