Technology and your lifestyle – Where is it heading?
By Mamu Himself
Technology is evolving at the rate beyond your learning capacity. Must you learn them all? How do you keep up with such changes, important of all, how do they affect your job and daily lifestyle?
We have seen from Blackberry to iPhone, from IBM 10 Kilo laptop to killer Mac Book Air which weigh 90% lighter than your first laptop. Where is technology heading? New software to learn and before you can ask what that button does, three more are released on the next updates.
In today’s high demand world, you must keep up with such changes. Be in the know, instead of surfing porn online at late night, read a tutorial or two about Microsoft Word or Excel. Next time you are in the office you can do a trick or two that will have everyone look up to you. Technology is here to make our life much simpler but you have to keep up and learn them first before they can be helpful to you.
Remember, technology is king – learn what you can and master what you have learned. You really need to keep your boss or the manager above impressed with technology at all times. I am not talking about taking your iPhone to work and playing tennis from of your coworkers. I am talking about advanced Excel knowledge. The time it would take you to manually calculate something, put them in Excel and let Excel do it for you. Spell checks your corporate email responses and inquiries for a professional look. It will fix the grammars as well.
Organization is very important, do not have files all over your desktop! A cluttered desktop is a cluttered mind so organize your desktop. Make folder and give them proper names of their content so next time you do not pull your hair out when looking for a file.
Start organizing your self all digitally. There are many software to manage your schedule, Microsoft Office Suite has one builtin, you can use your blackberry or iphone or even your brand spankin new (I hope) laptop to do such. Go paperless and save the planet, well at least mention that to your coworker so you look smart. Show that you are concerned of our planet and the reason you ride bicycle to work is not to save money but to save the planet. You’ll look smart and save money actually.
If you are looking for a job, before you spam your resume all over, make sure you list all your skills. Remember, knowing how to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook express all accounts for your skills. Do not just put in that you know how to use them, make a bold statement using words like “Fluent”.
Upgrade all your software in your home PC or laptop that you always use. Read, practice and play around on your own computer. What’s the word that can happen? You learn some new shortcuts to speed up your task at work. Learn to type with both hands, not fingering the keyboard, it’s a turn off!
Hope you learn and practice some of these tips given here. If you have tips for others, feel free to post them below as well. If you have any question or comments, do not forget to leave them below for Mamu!
