Body Dis-ease
By Parv Kaushik, askMamu.com
This is a time for humanity where the celebrities, media, fashion magazines, pharmaceutical companies, cosmetic companies, and of course the medical and surgery companies have come onto us in a war like state.
Look around everywhere. Inboxes full of solutions to enlarge penises or breasts. Magical answers to reduce that extra fat in your body. Our bodies are no longer just bodies anymore it’s a storehouse for multi-billion dollar business. Surgery companies ready to rush to give you a facelift, nose job, larger breasts or even to get that dimples when you smile.
You have to be, you should be at dis-ease with your body. The more you hate your body the better it is for the gym franchisees and above mentioned businesses. This is the MTV image conscious culture. That extra flab round the waist deserves to be the pivotal point in the deep dissatisfaction you have with your life. It’s grievous than the fact that 1/3rd of world’s undernourished children are in India.
Everybody wants to look like that model whose digitally enhanced pic in the magazine makes you hate the very reason you are alive with that pathetic body. Body-distress is almost a daily phenomenon. Acne problem can give a teenager sleepless nights and worrisome days.
Open up! We need to stop this. Look at what is happening to us. It’s good to be healthy, fit and fine but this body’s obsession with perfection. It is definitely a hidden export from the west. Indian scriptures and Guru’s always have been of the view that the body is a house to the soul. Body relates to the physical, soul related to the spiritual. Never have Indians been taught about how important it is to keep that abs in shape to attain the perfect Nirvana.
Everyone is not an iconic beauty or a magnificent athlete. Look what we have become trying to become that. We are becoming replicas of each other. Taking the same diet supplements, following the same fitness regime et al. Stand up. Stop the madness. Accept yourself. Accept that you are not perfect. Accept your body.
Have a healthy diet. Follow a balanced lifestyle. Remember what Savage Garden said:
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem.
