reflection_of_care_and_caress_from_familyWe are all aware of the fact that the first need towards survival of a creature is to breathe. If a newborn infant fails to breathe, it will not survive in this world, then comes the need for basic stuff like food and water. After that there are other needs like shelter, without which life becomes less satisfying, less comfortable, and we would feel hungry for something. This is the need for love.

We have understood and developed a new and strange characterization of love. Somehow we have, understood love as some kind a magical relationship, a kind of a soul mate, who once we find and then we will definitely be happy. But the fact is that only few of us are successful in finding such a mate. Only very few of these are successful and that too are only partly fulfilling or deeply painful. However, without love it is really impossible to survive physically and psychologically.

Birth, the natural phenomenon to life helps us to meet our parents, the special people for us. They give their precious years to support and nurture us all through infancy; we wouldn’t have survived without their love and support. They not only provide us with food and necessary protection, but also, help us grow into a happy and well-adjusted adult.

A more elementary definition of love lies in this giving and supporting function which begins at birth. Birth expresses and reveals some truly wonderful things. These are true at different levels of life. The embryo that will develop into a complete baby is linked to its mother by a connection that is known as the umbilical cord. This amazing link provides nourishment to the growing child inside womb of the mother and it is a natural and an enormous way in which the mother gives her own being to the baby. So the umbilical cord can be regarded as the flow of life. If there is a breakage or disconnection the baby will not survive.

So love can be defined as giving to and receiving from each other. This happens only through vital connections between individuals. It is this giving of language, sharing of ideas and emotions that exist between a mother and child, flows in our later intimate relationships. This relationship enables us to mature into an adult who is able to talk and think responsibly. Without the presence of this relationship you would be like babies nurtured by animals.

The greatest gift given by the parents to the child is the ability to handle the emotions. The parents should teach the children how to deal with their feelings, how to respect elders, etc… right from the childhood, this will help the child to grow as a good adult. The development of a child depends very much on the love and affection shown by the parents. Many children who have not received the perfect care from the parents at the puberty stage, become criminals since they become mentally depressed without proper care and love from the parents.
